How Levi Finland Became Popular
Levi Finland was known for its impressive views even during the 19th century. However, it was very difficult to visit as there were no roads. Tourism first arrived here in the 1930s when a road connected the region from the south. But there were still no hotels or cabins. Anyone heading to Levi had to stay with the villagers. The first cottage was built only in the 1950s and the first hotel came up in 1981.
Downhill skiing started here during the 1960s. The first piste and a ski lift system came up in 1964. Land was cleared for a military airport in the 1970s. This started the tourism boom eventually. The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup was hosted here in 2004. This brought Levi into the limelight, making it a top skiing area in Europe.
It is now a top resort in Finland and the country’s best skiing area. Many tourists come on Levi Holidays both in the summer and winter. The closest airport is at Kittilä, only 15 minutes from Levi. For accommodation, you can choose from fantastic cabins in scenic locations.
Come to the Lapland of Finland. Visit Levi and experience the polar night, the midnight sun, and the northern lights. Every year, the Aurora Borealis is visible on 111 nights on an average. Levi Holidays will let you try skiing at one of Europe’s best skiing destinations. Choose from the many other outdoor activities you can do here, both in December’s winter and at other times of the year.
